Workers' Compensation

What does workers’ compensation cover?

Workers’ compensation covers any sort of injury you may experience while on the job, or while operating a company vehicle — like if you have an accident. Some of the most common types of workers’ compensation injuries include:

·         Slips and falls

·         Strains and sprains

·         Falling off a ladder

·         Cuts and lacerations

·         Getting hit by an object

·         Machinery accidents

Workers’ compensation covers all of these types of injuries and ailments, and more, depending on the details of when and where your injury occurred.

What happens during a workers’ compensation exam?

Your workers’ compensation exam at L.A. Urgent Care & Occupational Medicine begins with treating your injury right away, especially if you have a broken bone or deep cut that requires immediate medical attention. It’s common for your workers’ compensation visit to involve:

·         Counseling on how to care for your injury at home

·         Pre- and post-accident evaluations

·         Follow-up visit planning

The team at L.A. Urgent Care & Occupational Medicine can even fill out any essential workers’ compensation paperwork, including the State of California Progress Reports (PR-2 or PR-4).

Sometimes, your employer requires certain physicals as part of your employment, too. The dedicated practitioners at L.A. Urgent Care & Occupational Medicine can perform Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals, pre-employment physicals, police and sheriff physicals, and sports physicals, to name a few.

When can I return to work after a workers’ compensation injury?

It’s important to give yourself adequate time to heal after a workplace injury. After all, if you return to work too soon, not only can you delay your healing further, you also risk re-injuring yourself. The practitioners at L.A. Urgent Care & Occupational Medicine perform return-to-work physicals, to ensure you’re recovered enough to perform your specific job function.

If needed, your physician might release you to a light-duty status, where you can safely return to work as long as you have certain accommodations in place. For instance, if you experienced a back injury due to a slip and fall, you might be able to return to limited job functions within a couple of days. You just won’t be able to lift or operate heavy machinery until you’re fully cleared.

If you experience a workplace injury, come to L.A. Urgent Care & Occupational Medicine. Schedule an appointment by phone, or simply walk in today!
